Unit 26 and 2: Task 1

Home


Laptops/Computers: A laptop/computer in a home environment would likely be used for recreational purposes such as watching videos on Youtube or talking with your friends on sites like Facebook or Twitter. There are also people that would use the laptops/computers to work on their projects by using software like Microsoft Office including services like Word or PowerPoint. A home laptop/computer would not have to be that technically impressive since most of them would be fine with a laptop/computer that could run well enough. 

Peripherals: At home people would use peripherals like the Hive System which can turn off your house's lights and heating with just your phone which can be used to prepare your house for when you return to your house by turning on your heating ahead of time. A USB would be used in a home environment so that the user could boost the amount of storage they have on their device and be able to transfer it to their work place. There is also the Amazon Fire TV Stick which is used to be able to watch a large amount of TV programs without having to install the channels on their TV. 

Smartphone: A phone in a home environment would be useful because it would allow the user to contact others, this would be useful since it would be easy to get important information from their friends. Another usage for a phone is that it would also be able to connect to the internet in a faster and more convenient manner, though using your phone as a way to connect to the internet would be less effective due to the smaller screen size so this is only useful when your are on the go.

Small/Large Business

Laptops/Computers: A laptop could be used by employees that are constantly on the move due to their job and they need to work while on the move. There are also laptops given out to employees that can be used so that they can continue to work while at home. Laptops/Computer is big business would be used to maintain websites that would be used by customers and to alter it if the need arises. They are also used to keep track of how much money they make and to keep track of which products are currently in stock. Small businesses often use relative middle of the road technology since they can get away with using it and don't wish to spend more money. Large businesses often use relative middle of the road technology since they can get away with using it.

Peripherals: Peripherals that would be used by a business are things like microwaves and coffee machines that can be connected to by your phone, they would be shown off to the customer as a way to demonstrate how it would work.

Smartphone: A smart phone in a small/large business environment could be used for higher ranking employees to contact the lower ranking employees about jobs that need to be done or about information that they need to hear. There is also a help line the customers need to contact so that they can get clarification about certain information about how the business works.

Gaming

Laptops/Computers: Laptops/Computers that are used in a gaming environment are more often then not, more powerful than a laptops/computers that most people would use. The reason behind this is because gaming laptops/computers have to be more powerful to run their games at the highest quality that they can manage. While using a gaming laptops/computers they will likely being using Steam to play games on their laptops/computers. The servers that the laptops/computers uses is important because of how it allows the gamer to play a game online with other people across the world, there are also servers for specific gaming sessions so you can play with specific people. If the gamer was also a YouTuber then it likely that they would have a recording and editing software on their laptops/computers so that they could make videos on their laptops/computers for YouTube. Most gamers would need a high end computer to run the more complex games if they are a PC gamer, if not then they would not need a high spec PC.

Peripherals: In a gaming environment there are several peripherals that are used, the main example would be the controller that you would use to play your games when your playing on a console or sometimes on a computer, there are several different controllers from the Wiimote used for the Nintendo Wii to the PS4 Dual Shock 4 for the PS4. Another peripheral is a headset that is used to talk to other players while you are playing online, this makes it easier to talk to people across the world, however, this also has the effect of. There are several unique peripherals like a steering wheel controller for racing games on PS4 or a Nun-chuck for the Nintendo Wii. There is also VR Headsets that allow the gamer to feel like they are fully immersed into a video game.

Smartphone: A smartphone can be easily used to buy and play games that are exclusive to mobile phones, using a phone is the most popular form of gaming amongst the general public.

Real Time

A real time operating system is a system that is in constant operation 24/7/365 to prevent incidents from happening or to keep a businesses running. An example of this is hospital systems that have to monitor the health and well being of the patients so they can remain safe, there is also the autopilot of planes so that it does not crash in case of an emergency. Satellites also run on a real time operating system because how they need to be in constant operation otherwise they might go off course. Real time operating systems require high end technology to work which is easy to aquire because of how the companies that run these systems are millionaires or are funded by the government.

Laptops/Computers: Laptops/Computers can easily connect to sites that use a real time operating system such as Amazon, which need to stay in constant operation so that orders that are placed while be sent to the customer as quickly as possible.

Smartphone: Smartphones can easily connect to a real time operating system. They can be used to contact emergency services that are always in service to prevent people from not receiving service in an emergency situation. There is also the Google Play Store which is in a state of constant service so that it can continue to make money for Google when people want to buy anything off of it.

Communication

Laptops/Computers: Many laptops/computers have several ways to communicate with other people worldwide. There are software systems like Skype or Discord that allow both full face to face communication or text-based communication. There are also websites that allow people to easily contact each other like Facebook or Twitter which can be used to communicate with anyone no matter their location.

Peripherals: Bluetooth hand free device makes communication possible for those driving a car and don't wish to cause a potential accident and it has the benefit of not having any wires that could easily tangle. Headphones would allow the user to hear the person they are speaking to better but it also has the downside that it is hard to hear any sound that is happening outside of your headphones.

Smartphone: Smartphones can easily be used to communicate with other people either by calling them or by texting them, this is the most well-known method of communication because of how accessible they are and how many people own one.

Comparison

Comparing the technology used at a normal home to a gaming environment, a gaming would likely have a more intensive PC that would be able to run graphically intense games whereas a home environment would have a less intensive PC because of how they wouldn't need a high PC for anything. There is also the fact that in a gaming environment there would be Smartphones that also play games on them, however, a home environment is less likely to use a Smartphone for this purpose. In a gaming environment there are a lot more peripherals such as controllers and headsets whereas in a home environment the peripherals that would be used are peripherals that would increase the ease to take care of their house or to make your house more comfortable by turning off the heating and making a coffee ahead of time.
