Unit 26 & 2: Task 4

Improvements that could have been made to our network would be to install several work-related apps (Like Microsoft Word or something similar) so that people who used our computers would also be able to work, be able to access the internet so that if they have any inquiries during their work they can look up anything they need to and they will also be able to manually update any software from their own computer and also install a better web browser so that when the employees search the internet they can do it faster. Another way to improve our network is to improve the scalability by adding more applications and software that can improve the usefulness of our system. We can improve our hardware by downloading the updates in the Windows Server 2003 Pack 2 which improve the networks security, speed and prevent glitches that causes memory loss, missing documents and makes sure that some applications work properly. The bandwidth could be improved by connecting to the correct wireless router, use the latest wifi technology, find the perfect spot to set up your connection, get rid of any other wireless appliances that are unnecessary and increase your network security so other people aren't using your wifi for free.

A maintenance schedule is a schedule that has been set so that you can keep track of your progress and your end goal. What is needed for our computer system is obtaining a network monitoring tool (SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor), obtaining user access (Which has been completed), obtaining a network traffic analysis tool (GFI LanGuard), checking our computers configuration, learn the show commands and run a traceroute system. The upgrades that need to be taken to improve my computer system is to download the updates from the Windows Server 2003 Pack 2.

To be able to support a small office/home office network you need multiple PCs (At least four), a few printers, an internet connection, a broadband modem/router, a four-port network switch, an eight-port network switch, a wireless router, a ten meter Patch Cable, two Power Adapters and a Printer Server. Improvements that can be made to the small office/home office network is that it could be updated by. The maintenance schedule will be obtaining the workspace then obtaining several PCs that our employees would need to use, setting up the wifi for our PCs, install software that would help our business, improve our internet security, buying furniture that the customers would use (Chairs and Tables), buy products that we would need to sell (PCs, Tablets, Laptops, TVs) and advertise our store both off and online.

We upgrade our software when the current software begins to slow down, become buggier and begins to cause problems when trying to work. The reason we upgrade software is because it will increase productivity by working faster and having a lot fewer issues like bugs and glitches that would make it harder for people to do their tasks, it can improve morale by having the workers be able to do their job better and make themselves feel better when they have done their job and to stay ahead of the competition so that you can continue to work at a similar pace as they do if not faster. To be able to update a software you must, check the File and Help menus for update instructions, go into All Programs, look for the install directory of an application you want to update, check for an update program option, go onto to your Internet browser to the software manufacturer’s Web site and look for update instructions, download a newer version than the version you’re running and install according to the software directions.

The reason we upgrade our Hardware is to increase security on our computers so that they have the latest upgrades that make it a lot harder for someone to be able to hack into your computer, increase the memory so that your computer is able to store more information that your employees can use and so that all of your computer systems can run at a faster speed so that you can get more work done. To be able to update your hardware drivers, you only have to go to the Device Manager, Right Click a Driver and click Update Driver.

We replace our computer systems when they become fully obsolete and can no longer function on a similar level as a new computer. We do this so that we can work more efficiently, the current hardware and software become obsolete, the maintenance cost becomes more of a burden than they help the company and because new software may not be compatible with your old system. To be able to run a routine maintenance on your computer system you must, run your DiskClean program, run Defrag once a month, keep your computer software up-to-date, use an external hard drive to back up your computer and be sure to blow dust and debris off your computer. Routine maintenance should be done once a month so that you will become aware when your system is completely obsolete and if there are still improvements that can be made so you can keep your computer system longer.
