Computer Game Design

Pixel Art (2D sprites, 3D isometric sprites)

Pixel art is when lots of tiny little squares are put together to form a full sprite of a character. The original Sonic the Hedgehog is an example of 2D sprites.

3D isometric sprites is when a character turns in a different direction and the 2D sprite changes to reflect on which way the character is facing to give off the impression that it is a 3D sprite but in fact the character facing a different way is a completely different sprite of the character from a different perspective. Sonic 3D Blast is an example of 3D isometric sprites by using a 2D sprite that changes directions it gives off the impression that the sprite is 3D.

Concept Art(e.g. Character, Weapon, Vehicle, Environment)
Concept art is used as first drafts of the design of something in a game lots of games use this and some games even show off the conceptional art work in the game, sometimes games show off the beta artwork to show off how it really could have looked like. An example that is being shown off below is from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance where it shows of the character from different angles and annotates some of the features of the character.

Texture Art
The textures in a game are basically the aesthetics wrapped around an object, without this everything in a game would be completely blank.

Background Graphics(e.g. Walls, Forests, Clouds)

The background in a video game are used to make the game look more diverse then it would without the textures

In-game Interface (e.g. Heads up display)

The in game interface is a system that makes handling the game more convenient called the Heads up display. Examples of things that show up on the Heads up display are: a mini map so you don't get lost, a health bar so you know how close you are to dying and an objective marker so you know where you are going.

Print Media Art (e.g. Game packaging, Box cover, Manual, Label, Poster)

Print Media Art is used to advertise a game and make it look good to an audience so that people will want to by the game, examples of this are the packaging of the game, promotional posters, the manual and the game's packaging. An example of promotional art work is Batman Arkham City.
