Different types of genres in video games
 
1) FPS (First Person Shooter)
FPS are games where the main view of the game takes place through the main character's eyes to give off the illusion that you are the main character.
An example of a good FPSs is TF2 (Team Fortress 2)
      
TF2 is a good FSP because it is a balanced, team based game where you can't win a game on your own, which needs you to be a part of a team and all of the classes are equally balanced to the point where they are all useful.
 
2) Fighting
Fighting games are games that have two players pick a character and try to beat the other player up until they get knocked out.
An example of a good fighting game is Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3.

The reason Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 is a good example of a fighting game is because of the convenient Heads-up-display which shows the characters health and their energy and because of the distance of the camera so that you can easily see both characters. 
 














3) RPG (Role Playing Games)
Role Playing Games are games that have you do quest and battle monsters to increase you effectiveness in battle so you level up.
An example of a good RPG is Pokémon X and Y.

Pokémon X and Y are good RPGs because of how the Heads-up-display shows of how many Pokémon you and your opponent have, how HP (Health Points) your Pokémon have and what is currently going on in the battle.
 
4) Sandbox
Sandbox games are games where you are put into a big, open world with lots of objectives to do and are played so that the player messes about in the open world.
An example of a good Sandbox game is Dead Rising 2: Off the Record.

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record is a good Sandbox game because of how easy the average enemies are which makes it fun to kill hoards of them and you have no threat other then the bosses so you can do side quests at your leisure.
 
5) Action-adventure
Action-adventure games are games where the idea is to pull off combos and beat up the enemies around you to progress through the game.
An example of a good Action-adventure game is Devil May Cry 3: Dante's awakening.
 
Devil May Cry 3: Dante's awakening is a good Action-adventure game because of it relatively fair difficulty, the diverse weapons, the fast-paced gameplay
 
6) Racing
Racing games are games where the idea is to race the other players to the finish line in first place to win the award.
 
7) Puzzle
Puzzle games are games where the main focus is to find the solution to a problem using logic so that you can't win through brute force.
An example of a good Puzzle game is Portal 2.
    
Portal 2 is a good Puzzle game because of how well the physics work in the game which leads to some interesting momentum based puzzles and the game isn't too difficult so you can figure out the solution to a problem fairly easily.
 
8) Stealth
Stealth games are games where the main focus of the game is to stay out of sight because if you don't the enemies will surround you and kill you very easily.
An example of a good Stealth game is Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
 
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is a good Stealth game because of the many ways you can hid from you enemy, with camouflage, with animals and with noises. There is also a lot of realism in the game with the camouflage, feeding your self, equipment and preforming first aid.
 
9) Platformers
Platforming games are games where you have to jump around to avoid or kill enemies and jump over hazards that will kill you.
An example of a good Platforming game is Super Mario Galaxy.

Super Mario Galaxy is a good Platforming game because of the level design, the smooth controls and the gravity mechanic.
 
10) Strategy
Strategy games are games where you have to precisely plan out all of your moves to ensure victory otherwise you will be beaten by the enemy forces.
An example of a good Strategy game is Pikmin 2.

  
Pikmin 2 is a good example of a Strategy game because how simplistic the game is on the outside but can be ruflessley difficult at times in the game while being fair.
