Project Specification

As I stated last week, I am most interested in the 2D Shooter and 2D Platformer.

I have chosen to do the 2D Shooter instead of the 2D Platformer. I have chosen to do the 2D Shooter because I am inherently more interested and I believe it would give me more marks because of all the ideas there are that can be implemented.

Genre: Sci-Fi

Target Audience: 20 Year Olds who are into Retro games.

A 2D shooter game similar to games like Megaman where you run and jump through levels that contain multiple types of enemies and obstacles. You can choose any of the levels that you want to play aside from the final level. At the end of each level you gain a new ability that you can use to make it through the new levels. After you beat each of the levels you can go back to them and explore them more with the abilities that you acquire so you can take different paths and fight through new areas and new bosses.

The levels will take place in several different locations like a Mining Facility, a Robotics Laboratory, an Army base, a Space Centre, a Power Plant, a Deforestation Site, an Aquatic Base, a Moon Base and a Fortress as the last stage. These levels can be revisited after they completed so you can look for upgrades and test out your new weapons you get after completing each stage.

The abilities that you get after beating each stage will be a new weapon that will also offer up new ways to explore levels, these weapon will also deal extra damage to the enemies and the bosses at the end of each stage. The new abilities that you will get after will allow you to access different parts of a level. An example being that you freeze a flowing river so you can walk across it and access a new part of the level or equipping an electricity ability that makes you immune to electricity so you can travel through are that were electrified so you couldn’t access them before.

There will also be general upgrades to make your health bar bigger, your dash faster and your weapons have more ammunition. You will have to find these upgrades in the levels, most of these upgrades can be found on your first play through of the level, however, some will need you to revisit the level with a new weapon.

In each stage there will be enemies that will fit the environment like Miners and Mining Equipment in the Mining Facility, Lumber Jacks in the Deforestation Site, Robots and Scientists in the Robotics Lab, Tanks, Helicopters and Soldiers in the Army Base, Astronauts in the Space Centre, Sharks in the Aquatic Base and Aliens in the Moon Base.

The reason I want to make this game is because is have always liked these types of games and I like games that allow you to get new abilities that allow you to explore more of the game world. I also wish to gain experience in making a 2D game. I also like 2D sprites, how they are made and how they are animated. I also think that a 2D game will be easier to create than a 3D game because of how the physics work and the lack of a lighting engine.

I will make the 2D Platformer game as my backup plan in case I am not able to finish my 2D Shooter.

Created by Luke Anderson

Genre: Fantasy, Horror

Target Audience: Teenagers to Adults 18-20’s.

The game takes place within a castle that you have to fight through to kill the master of the castle. The game will be set over the course of several levels that are back to back.

In the game you attack by swinging your sword to kill enemies that try to attack. Enemies only take a few hits to kill. The type of enemies you will encounter will be based off of mythological creatures like vampires and zombies.

You will also be able to gather secondary weapons that you can use alongside your sword. You will trade weapons when you pick up a second secondary weapon. These weapons can be found by defeating enemies.

The game will have a life system. Every time you die you lose a life. You get a game over if you lose all of your lives.

At the end of each stage you will fight a boss that has a health bar next to your own health bar. After you kill them you move onto the next stage.

After each stage you will be able save your progress. There will also be a score system that rewards you with more points the more enemies you kill, the faster you beat the level and you can gain more points by picking up certain items. At the end of the stage if you have enough points then you will gain an extra life.
